Friday, Dec 26: Start of the tour 10:00 a.m. Journey into Missionary History and the Ancient Desert. Departure from Hermosillo to Magdalena de Kino. On-site analysis of the San Ignacio de Caborica Mission and the viceregal dynamics in Sonora. We continue to the Cerro Trincheras Archaeological Zone to explore the complexity of antiquity in the desert and its site museum. Ideal spot to taste regional cuisine. Overnight stay in Caborca.
Note: The experience starts and ends in Hermosillo. We suggest arriving on the morning of December 26 or the day before.
Saturday, Dec 27: Immersion in the Great Desert: Dunes and Volcanic Craters. Entry into the El Pinacate and Gran Desierto de Altar Biosphere Reserve (UNESCO Heritage). Trek through the great dunes and visit the impressive volcanic craters El Elegante and El Colorado. An “otherworldly” perspective on geology and biodiversity. Overnight stay in Puerto Peñasco.
Sunday, Dec 28: Rock Art and Return to the Capital. Morning free for coastal exploration in Puerto Peñasco. Around midday, stop near Caborca to admire the pre-Hispanic iconography at the Petroglifos of La Proveedora (Caborca). Transfer and overnight stay in Hermosillo.
Monday, Dec 29: Encounter in Seri (Comcáac) Territory. Stop for lunch at Bahía de Kino. Transfer to the indigenous community of Punta Chueca. Cultural and ethnohistorical exchange on their worldview and natural environment. Setting up camp by the sea. Deep history talk.
Tuesday, Dec 30: Farewell and Closing in Hermosillo. Breakfast and breaking camp. Respectful farewell to the coast. Brief visit to Bahía de Kino Beach. Return to Hermosillo. Free afternoon. Walk through the historical area and farewell gathering.
